Any way you want. On my '66 sunroof I made an elevation tray from a plastic kitchen drawer silverware holder. I mounted the battery on its side and installed new battery cables. It fits very neatly under the back seat. On my '63, my buddy fabbed up a steel bracketry mount with strap to hold the battery upright.

Re: Local battery source
Napa has the right 6v battery too, they got mine next morning for around $100 no complaintsCharlieC66 wrote:I may need a new 6v battery. Who carries them?
NAPA has it. The part# is 5019L. It has 575 cold cranking amps.
Fully charged it's just like the original. They last about 4 years.
And the original 66 VW battery cover fits it.
My lat wo Optima 6 volt batteris didn't last 6 years long and they just floated around under the back seat.
See you NAPA store to order one. Made by Johnson Controls, just like Die Hard, Interstate, etc.
