Door Handle Difficulties

Post by Curbie »

Hi there,

I have had nothing but trouble with my 66' Bug's outside door handles. Right now I have two different door handles between the passenger (push button, which i figure may be original), and the driver's side (I'm guessing after market). Recently I have purchased a pair of 64-66 after market locking handles from Jbug's (my bug locked through the inside on the passenger side but my drivers side did not), but it seems they do not fit. Any answers? I am posting pictures below. Any help would be much appreciated.

late 66 used the B handle and the last picture of inside the door. Early 66 used the A handle, throw C out or sell it.

So, I have two different doors? I want to be able to lock them also, how would I go about this?

You probably have a 67 door on one side. You will have to clean the locking mechanism. Everything in the door has to come out to get the locking mechanism out. It sucks, I've done it on my driver side

Oh crap. I'll have to study up on door mechanisms. Thanks for all your help.

I looked at your handles again and A looks broke, but I'm not sure.

A '67 door will not fit a '66 because the striker mechanism was redesigned. Probably early '66 and late '66 doors, because the handle was changed mid year.

Probably had an accident, and a '66 door is a '66 door to anyone who needs one.
