Flywheel questions
Yes I have a 1964 bug, yes this is a 66 forum, but I feel the expertise on here is the best place for my needs on this one. With that said, I'm having an issue with the starter engaging the flywheel. When I got the bug it had a new starter installed already. My bug is set up for 12V, but am thinking...

In most cases you can replace the bushing without worrying about unloading the spring plate. When you put the car in the air, the spring plate, shock, and rear axle tube (or shaft if it's IRS) are still bolted together and keep the plate from slipping off the lower lip of the stop. Here's what I me...

Squeaking torsion bar bushing
I see this is a common ailment, and am wondering if anyone has simply installed a zirk fitting onto the cover so they could pump some grease into it. My guess is that the rubber bushing is ovaled and contacting the top of the cover. I would be willing to replace the bushing if I can remove the cover...

running coil over shocks
Are they better? What are the pros and cons?
Lastly, can you increase the payload capacity on the bugs with them, and do they lift it?

Getting ready for a long trip
I'm needing some advice or ideas on how to be more prepared for a 1500 mile highway trip. I'm wanting mechanical advice only please. For instance: guages. Should I install a mechanical set? Oil pressure of course, but what else? Oil cooler? electronic ignition? Run synthetic oil? How would I know if...

I just finished installing those. Slide the rubber seal out of the way, and behind are two phillips screws. Remove them and slide the handle out. Look at the new one and see how the handle end opposite the screws slides. A tip on pre install. Screw the srews into the new handle before you install it...

vapor lock? How hot's it where you're at right now? Gurgling sounds like boiling fuel in the lines, I've heard that sound before. Brosol H30/31? Really though, if it's leaking fuel, you know the end of this story. Pull it and go through it. Make sure all the bushings are good, there's no slop or an...

Shout out to all from Texas
Hi all! From Alpine Texas, and just got a 64 beetle. I know this is a 66 froum, but it looks to be a good place to learn about this older bug. I don't know all the differences or similarities, but I'm sue I will soon. An elderly friend recently passed away, and I was asked to sell off his car collec...

gurgling sound inside carburetor
Just started the bug for the first time since I owned it. PO had done a complete resto several years ago, so everything is in tip top shape. It is actually a 64, but don't see how that would make any difference in this case. The carb is fairly new with electric choke. So it fires up, and sounds as a...
