Wow, to say it was a hot day at the Wylie car Show would be an understatement. The heat was really unbearable. I did, however, meet some great people, like Greg with his beautiful 1957 chevy, and TJ with his Corvette (I believe).

Some folks on my Facebook page have remarked about the backdrop to the Sea Blue ’66 being the cbd/hemp store. I didn’t choose the spot, because if I had been able to choose my own spot, I can promise you I would have been on the other side of the street in the shade! I was told that there were 225 entries in the car show. That was very easy to believe.
I have to say that this car show should be in May or September. It’s just too hot this time of the year to be on the street for 7+ hours. After the first thirty minutes I pretty much regretted my decision but live and learn. It’s the first car show I have been to that starts at noon (lining up) and ends at 9:00 PM. 9:00 PM is when the streets are opened up again. Most of the car shows I’ve been to open for registration about 8:00 AM and are done around 2:00 PM. In this heat, that would have been a much wiser time frame.

Registration was a two-step process. Under one tent, you gave your name and were checked off a list. Then you are given a small round sticker to put on your windshield to show you paid your entry fee. After being let into the street and parked you went to a different tent and showed your registration ticket and were given a placard for your windshield. The folks running both of these stands were extremely nice and very professional.
So, I think this is the first car show where I’ve actually left my car unattended. I just couldn’t take the heat. Those of you that know me well, understand that’s just not something I would ever consider doing. As I left my 66 on the hot side of the street unattended, in my head I could hear my dad saying “John, sometimes you just need to trust people”. It was so hot, to be frank, if someone had taken anything out of the car, I would have thought that being in the shade was worth the loss.

So, I walked around in the shade of the other side of the street where a breeze existed. I bought a chocolate shake from a food truck ($6.50 but believe me worth it). Later, sometime after 3 PM I went into Bold BBQ and had a salad, and a large root beer in air conditioning just to cool my core temp down.
The awards were given out at about 8:15 PM and I was very happy to place in the import class because there were so many really nice VWs and other imports there, including a pristine VW van.

The police unblocked the street at 9:00 PM, and I was never so happy to have air flowing over me on the way home. Now, having the six-volt lights on the way home was in a word – horrible! I’m very glad to have the bug back inside, and I’m thinking no more car shows until the weather cools, say maybe 12 weeks from now!

I agree with you, John–about the time of day for opening a show in the Summer-time. The one at the former Sandy Lake Amusement Park opened early–but in JULY!!! At q our Gathering yesterday–it was over-cast, mitigating sun damage–we spent a lot of time in the parking lot. Your car looked (looks) GREAT, John! The placard under the Hood is good–the stand in front of the car is stupendous! jay
