There is a parts dilema, there is no doubt about that. Just ask any VW beetle owner where to get the best parts and you will get quite a few different answers. Of course, some owner equate best with “Best Price”, so be careful. What everyone has learned is best price doesn’t mean best quality.

Like it or not, you will eventually need parts.

In some cases you may find that it doesn’t matter where you buy your part. In particular if it’s brake fluid hose, spade connectors, or other items where the quality couldn’t be discernable. However, when you get into things like engine parts, wheel bearings, brakes, master cylinders, body panels, etc. there is a lot of variability.

Of course the most striking thing about the parts dilemma is how VW has failed. They have completely failed their classic beetle base, knowing full well of the millions of beetles that are on the road. Had they continued their support I am sure they would be making a hefty profit, not just on all the parts they could be supplying, but all the accessory items that used to be on the market.

So, where to go to get authentic parts? There are two places that come to mind if you are looking for original products, eBay and thesamba.com.

There are probably some facebook pages as well, where classic beetle folks sell German parts.

Thesamba.com is one of the best places primarily because of their large membership. I recently contacted a seller in Poland in order to get an “SC” lock cylinder for my beetles engine deck lid. It was the only place I could find one.

eBay is another good place to search, but not nearly as diverse as thesamba.com, however I have found many items on there as well.

When it comes to new aftermarket parts, you can check out the links page by clicking here. Keep in mind that there are many more suppliers than who I have listed. I don’t list anyone that I haven’t had experience with. In addition, I’m not going to make a recommendation on who you should purchase parts from, you will need to do your own research. I have had good results with everyone listed on the links page. I will say that the ones I use most often are Wolfsburgwest, and AutohausAZ.

You will here beetle owners saying stay clear of certain parts made in this country, or that country, and much of that can be true. I would say, if you can get German parts do that, if not, reach out to other beetle owners and ask them for a recommendation.
