It’s not every day that I will drive the sea blue beetle for coffee. In fact, as you probably have guessed i really don’t like driving in hot weather. However, Saturday was an exception. Mainly, because it may be the last time I drive it for a while as we will be making our yearly trek north in our travel trailer.
Here is an overview from their FaceBook page:
“We are a group of car enthusiasts that love to meet and discuss life and cars, sip on coffee and “drive” charity and give back to non-profits and great causes in and around our community. This group is for everyone. Keep in mind that our meets are meant to proudly display classics, luxury, exotic and specialty cars ONLY. You are welcome to come enjoy the show, but due to space requirements, if your car does not fall into one of these categories, please be courteous and park in the area for designated for spectators”.
I thought this was going to be a small gathering of folks, boy was I wrong. I rolled into the parking lot at the Nissan Dealership at 7:30 AM, and it was already packed with cars. As I was parking Garry and his ’57 Chevy pulled in right next to me. Later, I ran into Jay and Mark from my neighborhood, they had brought their Corvettes.
I also ran into another beetle owner, Joe, who had a beautiful SeaSand ’66. I love that color. It’s probably the only ’66 color that looks different depending on how the sun hits the paint.
It didn’t take long, and the Nissan dealership was packed with over 400 cars. As you can see from the overview above, “Car’s and Coffee of Rockwall” donates their proceeds to Charities. If you go, you will find merchandise, and food trucks. Even though it was hot, at least it ended at 10:00 AM before the real heat started.
