Well, my winter, spring, and summer love affair with the beetle, has ended and blue bug is back in the shop. From February to July, it was for the most part my daily driver. Now it sits waiting for the next drive.

It’s probably just as well as the summers here in Texas make me reluctant to take it for a drive. It’s uncomfortable for me in the heat, so I can imagine how the engine feels.

I was hoping to get to an oil change and a valve adjustment right before I headed up north to pick up Tammy. That never happened. It was one of only a few things that never got done on my “to-do” list.

So, yesterday I went to Oreilly’s and picked up oil, and then did the oil change.

It definitely needed to be changed.

I had done the valve adjustment the day before. Most valves needed no adjustment, but cylinder 4 needed to be loosened up a bit.

Doing this in the shop is nice because it is climate controlled. However, laying on my back for both of these procedures, in a word, sucks!

I have the Garland VW meeting coming up on Saturday. But I’ll be watching the weather, because as I get older, I am less motivated to drive in this heat. However, the good thing about Texas is its great driving weather for about 9 months out of the year.

FYI – the Valve Adjustment and Oil Change Procedures are listed on the main website 1966vwbeetle.com.
