Tammy and I rolled back into north Texas after 35 days and 3100 miles on the road in our 2017 Imagine travel trailer. The trip up north was great fun but not without issues, much like owning a 66 beetle.
Fortunately, I anticipated some issues along the way, like needing a new base to our toilet. I purchased it while in Wisconsin and had it already sitting on our table when the RV toilet flush valve finally quit working.
Other issues are the things you are not planning for, like a leaking sink or a broken base inside a cabinet. These are not hard things to deal with, especially when you have a lot of tools along with you. I carry “just in case” supplies with my travel trailer because I realize bad things happen on the road. Extra wrenches for suspension issues, extra slide motors, etc.
Now, honestly, I don’t carry much in the way of tools when I am only driving my blue bug about 20 miles to a meeting, but I probably should. So, when you are out and about don’t forget to take a bottle jack, a tire wrench, and an extra fan belt and the tools for replacing it.
At Saturdays Cars and Coffee, I heard a few stories of folks breaking down and being stranded. They had not anticipated any problems, so they were not prepared. Trust me, this isn’t just something that happens to VW Beetles, it runs the gamut of classic cars.
For those of you who live near the Dallas area, I highly recommend Rockwall’s Cars and Coffee once a month get together. They are a charitable organization that raises money for a different charity each month. Yesterday charity was Toys for Tots.
While it still had a big crowd, I think attendance was down from last month. I think this was due to perhaps two things. One, it was a bluster cold morning with sunshine quickly turning to cloudy sky’s. Two, some folks were sleeping in after the Paul/Tyson fight. However, as I mentioned the crowd was still very large.
Here’s a few pictures from the event.

I also ran into Oscar (AKA Rusty) of Rusty’s Bodywerks. He has done a quite a bit of paint work on the bug, and it is always awesome. If you need an auto body shop that does great work, click here.
In the meantime, stay safe, consider Rockwall’s Cars and Coffee, and make sure you keep a few tools with you!
