Hood trigger switch for car alarm

Post by Teal »

After many attempts to locate & adjust the shock sensor for my dub I've decided to resort to pin switches to effectively protect my baby. Does anyone have some advice for placement and installation of a hood switch? I could drill a hole anywhere along the perimeter and eventually get it right, but I don't bring drill bits near Lola unless I've got a good plan.

Any help, pictures or advice would be great!

Slam bam thank you m'aam, I ordered two switches from Amazon. That will take care of my deck lid too, yahoo! And no mounting holes I can stick-em on. Great idea that's why I came to this forum.

I'm going to go with the self-adhesive strip that comes with the units, but that might heat up to questionable temps on the deck lid... has anyone glue-mounted a switch inside the lid? I'll try the adhesive but I might be back, I suspect the AZ sun will weaken it then my cruising speed on the freeway will shake it loose. We'll see.

I guess I'll find a good tie-off point so that one doesn't end up in my belt or even worse bouncing behind me like a geek-a-thon wedding sendoff.

nite!

high temp silicone or epoxy. Nothing else will do. Front one too. Adhesives aren't meant for our summers.

I'm going to follow suit and install one front and rear. Did you mount yours low and a steep degree or higher up at a slighter degree? I guess there aren't too many spots where we part on an incline in the valley, what degree should I set the plane?

I'm digging on the brainstorming, it's sweet pulling a plan together. Thanks for your help!

The Mexican Beetles have these for both the hood and decklid, and they simply install a little bracket and use the regular domelight switches from the doorjambs.

I installed the hood mercury switch last night, works great! As I gather momentum for wiring the stereo I'm going to pull a conductor for the deck lid switch as well.

I love it when a plan comes together!

Good call BERHAN with the mercury switches.

If you're serious about protecting you Bug, try and get set up a pair of those small airhorns from Harbor Freight to replace your siren.

If you're really REALLY serious about protecting it get a fuel cut off.
