locking doors

Post by charstuff »

hi, i have only tried a couple of times, but ended up resorting to using a "club bar" to put on the steering wheel, but im unsure of how to lock the doors. There are three keys and i know they go to ignition, doors, and the trunk, but how do you lock the doors?

Hi and welcome.

On the '66 there is no external lock on the passenger side door. It is locked from the inside only by pushing the door opening handle forward.

On the driver side the door does not lock from the inside. The key from the outside actually locks the push button and not the lock itself.

Hope this was helpful.

oh ok thank you, i was just having trouble with the drivers side door, because i thought it was the same as the passenger side ddoor where you could lock it from the inside.

...and I believe on the drivers side, you can push the handle forward as you get out, then hold the door knob in as you close it and it will lock the drivers door. I actually prefer locking it with the key so that I am sure I have my keys with me when I exit the vehicle.

On a side note, I also use the club.

I have found that with the older cars unless you have ur dog in the car, there is very little anti theft protection so i use the club, for both my 66 bug and mustang.

Also, i have looked around at lots of online sites, but i seem unable to find a little white knob that i can purchase for one of my window handles. The handle still puts the window up and down, but the knob is gone. Any places have it?

Hi Charstuff: I've never seen the knobs sold separately, only as part of the entire handle. They are pretty easy to change as a complete handle though.
