Motorola Radio question?
Motorola Radio question?
In my 1966 there is a old blk Motorola radio w/ blk knobs. Could that be org? Not ugly not cute. Listening to others here it seems I'd rather get my hands on a am/fm bluapunkt radio w/ Ivory knobs? What do u all think about th Motorola?

The correct radio for the 66 (at least here in the states) was the Sapphire III AM Radio, although Sapphire did come out with an AM/FM 6 volt in 66 as well. The Motorola I'm sure is an addition by the previous owner (Jump in anyone if you think I'm worng - it wouldn't be the first time). If it fits well and works ok, I wouldn't worry about it. A lot of folks have moved on to different radios. If you want the older model radios you can find them on ebay and in the classified section of www.thesamba.com however be prepared for some of them to be in non-working condition.
Thanks for the info.
Thankfully it doesn't look like the deck was cut or anything. I will eventually end up looking for the original radio. I see on this site a AM/FM was an option for the 66's.
I checked samba yesterday only one radio available, almost $400.00 for the Euro version OUCH & no CD player, LOL.
What would be a fair price range for a working Sapphire?

Radios were a dealer install option. Sapphire III and IV (the late '66 am/fm 6 volt) were the suggested radio, but you'd also see moto and blau radios depending on what the dealer had in stock and where your car was sold. This is also why you see several different antenna styles and installation locations in the same year model of car. My car has a single mast antenna on the driver side, but one of my friends has an original '66 that has a dual mount on the passenger side (which you usually see on earlier cars). The dealer paperwork lists the dual antenna and sapphire III as extra options.
Go fig.
