Hey All Y’all

Post by Schnitzelfuss »

Greetings from North Alabama! I just drug a ‘66 Bug home (my birthday present) and started making a list of what I got and what I ain’t. It’s a drivable project that someone started then quit after removing the interior. Floor pans and heater channels have been replaced in the not too distant past, all the exterior trim pieces are there, 1600 dual port from an early 70s car sits in the back, runs strong, no leaks yet. It’s been lowered front and back. I owned a terminally rusty 1960 Beetle for a bit many, many years ago and always wanted another, I’m retired now and so here we are. I don’t know much about it so I’m learning as I go. Looking forward to it.
By the way, for those not living in the Southern US, “Y’all” singular, “All Y’all” is plural.

your 1600 dualport should serve you well, especially given its solid run and leak-free status. Just remember, fixing up an old bug is a marathon, not a sprint.

Oh yeah, I plan on about a year before she will be back together and on the road. I’m disassembling her now, plan to remove everything that can be removed with wrenches. Clean, inspect, repair or replace as necessary or if it makes sense. I’ve already got the fenders off, the engine out, the center tunnel cleaned out (what a mouse hotel it was), the gas tank and entire front suspension is out, the entire brake system, all four brake drums, etc. etc. I’m fortunate to have Mount’s Customs just down the road from me, Darryn is a wealth of knowledge on all classic VWs. He has a shop full of old VWs in various stages of restoration but will still make time to answer your questions and offer advice.

that 1600 is a workhorse, you're in for fun times ahead. And yeah, gotta pace yourself with these kinda projects, ain't no 100m sprint. Peaks and valleys, mate, peaks and valleys.
