smooth Driving - it is possible

Post by KKV270 »

Hi.

Was around looking for what new posts are in.... realized it has been a while since I made one on my bug....then thought to just mention, guys, how cool to drive through without issues. Somewhat I miss the fixing, not to say I'm looking for issues, but guess I enjoyed it for a number of reasons- most being the lessons and success at the end.

For that reason, I want to say a BIG THANK-YOU to all you out there who directly and indirectly contributed to my "smooth driving".

I hope to be as valuable as well.

Smooth Driving

Post by Roadbug »

I too have experienced smooth driving in our 66 VW Bug. When I bought it, in 1989 it ran well and had the brightest headlights I'd ever seen on a "6 Volt" VW. It was an original maintained VW that the origonal owner had driven until they sent her to a nursing home.
Turned out the previous owner's service station had put a 12 volt battery in, not knowing it was the last of the 6 volt Volkswagens.
After a careful check for other service errors, with minor repairs it became a great little car to tow behind our RV. Then we discovered the AACA regional tours as well as national tours that welcomed cars over 25 years old. I felt conspicious in such a new car new car (It was 1994 and the VW was only 28)
Now it's 49 and still a pleasure to drive. (We're going on a tour to the Tennessee side of the Smoky Mtns in April and might even drive it on the "Tail of the Dragon", eleven miles with 318 curves)
An old car nut who got his driver's license in a new 1961 VW and has owned 10 VW's (1957-1972) since then. Favorite was the 67's (2), but the 66 is the longest owned and current VW.

Glad all is well in Kenya and your mechanic skills have improved on the old bug!

Be careful on the Dragon as the sport bikes will run you down. I hope you are there on a week day when there is less traffic. Happy Motoring!

Really, there's no reason we shouldn't always experience smooth driving. My only complication lately was a couple of sticking rear wheel cylinders.
