Stick Shift "Off the border"

Post by KKV270 »

Hi guys.

I have recently experienced my gear handle move further to the left out of the gear 1 and 2 position......thus having difficulty engaging the two gears with most of a challenge on gear 2 which would grind gears when it doesn't enter the correct position.

For someone who is farmiliar with this, please explain what is happening as well a step by step to the solution.

Regards.

Check the rubber "squares" on each side of the shift coupler. They were soft rubber and tend to disintegrate after so many years. I predict the one on the left side has fallen to bits.

The coupler is located under the access plate on the tunnel under the rear seat. Urethane replacements for the rubber parts are available separately, or you can buy the entire coupler cage as a replacement part.

To replace, you have to remove a long horizontal screw, which can be tricky to reach through the access hole, but just remember, patience, patience patience, and it will get done.

Hi Blue Baron.

Thank you for the advice. I found a brocken stop plate that i got welded and grinded. It works perfect now.

it must have been something I aquired but worsened as after the fix, my gear 2 engages perfect unlike what has been for the last 2 years I've had the car.

Cheers.

Broken stop plate? The plate under the shifter?

Yes Darzoom,

The plate under the shifter was broken hence the shifter would go beyond the position needed to stop.

Cheers.
