1966/67 beetle

Post by vwbeetle53 »

Hello all new to the site so a big hello to all out there. my question is this I live in the UK and last year i bought what I was thinking is a 67 beetle .But when I got the birth certificate ,when it came through from Germany, it said it was made in may 1967 and was registered in may 1967 in the UK. However when my friend looked at it he said no its a late 67 It has a F code 1300 engine the same one year only wheels and hub caps as a 66 and the one year only Door handles and deck lid and it also runs on a 6v system so is this car a late 66 .Any ideas please
Thank You

Ps can also ask should it have the brake down warning lights and the knob/switch for it on the dash as there is not one there.

I don't know if this will help but it has a 117 chassis code

A chassis code beginning with 117 is a 1967. The "11" indicates the model and the "7" is the last digit of the model year. The `67 model year begins August of 1966 and ends the last of July 1967. The 12 volt system began in the 1967 model year for the US market. I believe 12 volt started in the 1968 model year for the European models. European Beetles had 1200, 1300 and 1500 engines available. I don't think that the `67 European models had the emergency flashers.

I think that the following link is the correct owners manual for your car:

http://www.thesamba.com/vw/archives/man ... sbug67.php

As best as I can tell, the second page of the owners manual has a typo and should read 1200A instead of 1300A.

Right. Check the chassis number. '66 starts with 116 and '67 starts with 117. A variety of trim levels and engines were offered in the UK, with several Beetle models to choose from, unlike in the U.S., where only the top-of-the-line model was offered.
