Is there such a thing as an uncracked OEM steering wheel?

Is there a compound that will fill the cracks in an OEM steering wheel? I would like to find a nice OEM Black steering wheel for my '66 Beetle but that may be asking too much.

Does a paint job hold up on a steering wheel?

Cracks can be dealt with epoxy and plastic fillers, but the steering wheel is the same up to '71 (Beetle and Super Beetle), so this is something I'd be looking for at VW show swap meets.

I've got a fairly decent Ivory colored steering wheel on my '66 now. If it weren't for a couple very small crack it would be next to perfect. I figured if it needed to be painted Black anyhow to be the correct color I may as well fill the cracks before painting.

Any particular brand or type of plastic filler to use? 2 Part Epoxy perhaps?

POR-15 makes a steering wheel restoration kit, with an epoxy system, and there are several others to be found if you Google the subject. I haven't used any of these products, but the YouTube videos look convincing.
