Jacking and securing in air...

Post by Johnsbegood »

Hi guys and girls. Just joined. My sister has 1972 beetle that's sadly been left. I've been given the job of jacking her up, removing wheels, unseizing the stuck on brakes and popping her back on the ground.
So my first question is where to jack her up both front and rear parts. I have a trolley jack and some axle stand but she a bit rusty so want to know a good spot at each corner that I can jack and then use a jack stand??
Thanks all.

Put jack stands under the rear sringplate stops and the front axle beam.

Thanks for the reply. So at the front if I jack on the axle and support with stands that's ok?
On the rear I'm not sure what the spring plate is? I'm new to the world of beetles.

Yes on the front axle, and the spring plate stop is a just forward of the rear wheel under the fender. It's the stop the springplate (large spring steel part that connects the axle to the car) rests on when you jack the car up.

To make this really easy, put the jack stands on the tubes that run crossways at both ends of the car. The one up front will be the beam, the one in the rear will be the spring plate housing NOT THE REAR AXLES! Further forward.
