Narrowed Beam on the 66

Post by DC-Dubs »

How much of a narrowed beam can I go on my 66 before needing to modify the inner wheelhouse? Rareair installed a 3 3/4" narrowed beam on his 66 vert, and that's exactly the look i am wanting on my hard top. Did you need to modify the wheelhouse? I appreciate any input!

Freeway Flyer

Post by DC-Dubs »

Whats the general consensus on the freeway flyer? I am installing a Bernie Bergman 2010cc in my project 66 and want a taller 4th gear for some highway driving. With a little over 200hp I am thinking about the Pro Street Freeway Flyer. Anybody using the freeway flyer? Comments? Suggestions? 1st, 2nd, and 3rd keep standard ratio but 4th is a little taller for lower RPMs at freeway speeds.

There was no modifications needed at all to fit a 3-3/4" narrowed beam. Shock towers just barely squeezed in, but it all fit. Don't think a 3-13/16" would fit, it's that tight.

Forget the taller 4th gear, easiest method of getting a freeway flyer is to change the final gear ratio. You're '65 should be equipped with a 4:12, drop in a 3:88 and you'll be golden.

Thank you Rareair!

Awesome! Thanks for the input. I got you loud and clear on the 3-3/4" max narrow! Also thanks for the suggestion on the final gear swap out. I am eager to try that. You sure have a sweet collection of Vdubs. Thanks for the great progress pictures on the front rust repair!

<-- runs a 4" narrowed beam with towers. Right up against the inner fender wall. That's as far as you can go. 3/34" will clear with room to spare.
