In-Dash Stereo Install
In-Dash Stereo Install
Will a stock Alpine stereo fit without cutting away at the dash (which I refuse to do). Or is there a good undermount dash kit out there?

All the later aftermarket stereos I've seen require the dash to be cut. The opening's designed so that the older radios knobs and buttons fit through and is too small for a modern head unit. What about a glove box install and a remote control?
You could also try something like this:

Supposed to be installable without cutting the dash
Or something along the lines of The Secret audio installations, where you have a head unit hidden somewhere and control everything via a remote. Massively popular with hot rod and custom car guys because you can put it anywhere and not mess up the lines of your interior.

Personally, I'd either mount it in the glove box with a kit, or bolt it under the dash with a radio block off in place. Cutting the dashboard to accomodate a later stereo is just a shame, and I'm not a big fan of the newer digital radios that are supposed to look stock...just my opinion.
Another option is a console people either fabricate or purchase I'm sure there are other vendors out there but I saw these at vwinnovations.com :
