So im 16 and trying to understand my 66 beetle so that I can fix and maintain it my self but I have only had it for like 4 months and I need some help please.
So I replaced the double filament bulbs on my taillights because my blinkers and brakelights had gone out, after they worked for a couple of days then they stopped. So me and my dad checked the brake light switch on the master cylinder and they didnt work off of the switch, so then we checked the cennection in the engine compartment and nothing was coroded. Were thinking were going to need to replace the wiring what do yall think? and if so how? cause I have never done anything close to that before.
Thanks, Kathleen

Before you run all new wiring you may want to check all your grounds. Also check the bulb holders to make sure there is no corrosion in them. When you checked the connector in the engine compartment did you use a voltmeter to see if you had voltage at the connector? You can unplug your wire and put one side of the meter on the connector and one to a good ground. One of you can then push the brake pedal and you should get voltage when the switch closes. If it's good there then you can move to the bulb holder and do the same. One lead to ground and one to the contact inside the connector. One of the contacts will be your brake light and should have voltage the other will be the blinker and you can turn the blinker on and see the voltage appear and disappear. Work on the drivers side first if you get that side then move to the passenger side.
Before we bought wiring we bought a test light to see if there was any power going to the taillights, and turns out there was. Then we figures out that the wiring had been messed with by a previous owner so the blinker wasnt on top and such so the mix up porbable shorted the bulbs. We fixed the wiring and installed new bulbs and everything seems to be working great.
But thank you very much for your advice.
