Different Piston Rings

Post by brentsmith »

Hi, everybody.

I got some "vintage old stock" rings for my 66 Beetle, and they look to be different from the rings that are on my pistons now. I was hoping that someone could look at the pictures below and advise me as to whether or not these other rings will work. The second and third pics are of my old pistons/rings, and the first is of what I found in one of the 12 little white envelopes that were inside the box. There seem to be three white envelopes for each piston, with each envelope containing either the top, middle, or bottom ring.

I'm thinking that they're not going to work, and am hoping that someone can give me a part number for the correct ones, and where I can get the best deal. Thanks in advance!

Actually, it's the 3rd pic that is the ring set in question (the ones I don't think are going to work).

Went to AutoZone today and ordered the proper set for $65.00. All of the other sets I found online were around $20.00 plus shipping, but looked just like the ones I had.
