Are my clutch tube welds broken? Help!
shudder Troubleshoot
Hi.
Please tell me;- having been rolling my car down to start the motor severally for lack of a starter, I suspect my shudder and "sringgy clutch" feel (that is now having gears 1 & reverse engage with slight grinds) result from that as I'd do the sudden-clutch-release.....
What probable part might I be having damaged??

Gear grind probably synchronizers maybe are being damaged. See Article to explain how they work:

I would think all the mounts are taking a beating due to the jolt. I raced VWs off road and we had to beef up the mounts or they would break for sure and had to keep on top of all nuts and bolts to keep tight or add lock tight and safety wire.
But, believe it or not the car itself stayed together pretty well for running it on a Motocross track and jumping a stock VW. My crystal ball is not work well to foretell what you will eventually break. It is a 48 year old car so stuff is going to give out.
My best advice is get the starter working again.

That's the brake pedal return spring at the pedal assembly. The clutch pedal return spring is located at the release lever on the transmission.darzoom wrote:One thing I did not mention is there is a clutch pedal return spring. I had an incident where mine broke. It did make the pedal feel quite loose. Look at the attached for reference.

shudder is back
Hi.
Kindly help me think this through.... My clutch pressure plate gave in once more & released the centre part that mates with the release bearing.
Before this, the "springy" feel on the clutch peddle had recurred.
I replaced the pressure plate - no avail. Replaced the clutch plate - no avail (in reference to getting the shundder and springy feel away).
Adding to it, gears would not engage at times as the peddle wouldn't release the clutch - this would be on & off.
There's a "grind-like" sound on cluntch peddle press (not to sure where from) & at times, this loads the engine & shuts it off.
I am suspecting the clutch release bearing shaft/fork.... It has some sort of playwhen pushed from the side. Is that normal?
What could be going on? I highly doubt ( hope against al) that it has nothing to do with a broken tube in the channels as explained above.
Kindly come to my aid asap. I have a 700Km trip in less than 48 hrs!!! Help

shudder is solved
Hi.
Ivam glad to say, the problem is with the play on the release bearing fork/shaft. It keeps getting off centre thus getting the pressure plate off centre.I will be about unmounting and fitting a proper shim as I had put a piece that served to solve the problem....though as a test.
Thanks guys.
