Hi, when my bug is idling there is a noise coming from the trans. As soon as I press in the clutch peddle the noise stops. It shakes going into all gears. I bought the bug a few weeks ago and it always shook a touch going into first only and all the other gears were nice and smooth. The cable looks new and it does not need adjusting and the tube is bent as it should be. The trans oil is full. Do you think I will need to drop the engine? How much will a job like this cost at my bug mechanic in the Tampa area? I have to get this fixed asap, I am having bug withdrawals. Thanks.

Thanks for the offer BB. I was going to bring it to Total Performance in Tampa to get front end suspension work done and was just going to let him fix the clutch problem as well. I am in Trinity around Hwy 54 and Little Rd area. I had got the engine running great and then the clutch problem came up so I have not been driving it. I just want it fixed yesterday, I LOVE driving it. I am new to Bugs, just bought this 66 a couple of months ago from a guy in Plant City. I think the bug lived in Sarasota, Fl, as evidence from the old oil change sticker on it from the 80's, that would explain the rusty pans that will need replacing as well some day in the not to distant future. Thanks again for the input, I will be in touch.

I got the bug back from the shop last week and all is well. It shifts like a new bug. They replaced pretty much everything that has to do with the clutch. They also replaced the transaxle supports. While I had it in there I had them replace all the front end parts and it rides real nice. They also replaced the brake lines and adjusted the brakes.
I have been driving it daily since I got it back. Next up are the bumpers and rims I will be restoring.
