Pre-heat tube to oil bath ar cleaner

I recently completely overhauled the engine in our beetle. As you all know, the 1300 engine has a paper pre-heat tube routed from the driver side heater box through the engine tin to the snout of the oil bath air cleaner. My question is; should this pre-heat tube have an adverse effect on the performance of the engine in hot weather, I live in Florida. The engine seems to run just fine until it gets hot, then it will stall and is hard to restart. I removed the paper pre-heat tube from the air cleaner and held it next to my hand. The air being forced out of the tube from the heater box was very hot! Please advise. Thank you.

Hello sounds like the petrol or gas as you over there call it is evaporating when hot,I think you should be ok to disconnect the hot tube that feeds the the air filter in your climate although it should have a valve on the end that you could shut in the summer I may be wrong still a beetle novice but have been fixing vehicles in the uk 25 years

I have the preheater tube connected on my oil bath and was running around on the highway on one of our near 100 degree days about two weeks ago with no ill effects.

I agree with the poster. The tube that attaches to the heather box draws in very hot air. In Florida you shouldn't need the preheat, so it's okay to plug the hose. But whatever you do, don't remove the hose and let the hot air from the heater box flood the engine compartment! You need to plug it off!
