Hey, guys! The hood and bonnet on my Bug keep hitting the fenders, and I need to do some tapping out of dents, patching, and painting. No big deal since I'm going to repaint the whole car anyway.
My question is this: Can someone give me a link where I can buy some fender mounting brackets that are an inch to an inch-and-a-half longer than stock? I know a guy who can weld if I need to make the ones I have a little longer, but I'd rather buy them outright.
No need to repair the damage if the cause of the damage isn't removed.

Fender brackets
Just a thought, but I have drilled new holes in the bumper brackets to get the bumper out a little further. Not a ton of room past the factory holes but you could gain a little. Also if your bumper brackets are bent even a little, from a little contact, you can unbolt the brackets and use like a two pound sledge hammer and hammer them straight again. You will usually need a lot of WD40 and double set of 13 or 14mm wrenches to get the brackets loose from the bumper and over riders and then hammer them out on nice flat surface. It's a great time to wire brush your brackets and repaint them and clean up the surface rust between the brackets and the body. You would be suprized how much room that will get you just straightening up the brackets!! It's a little work, but the results and improvements are worth it!

Hammer
My two pound sledge is just a little hand held one with a two pound head on it. Not to heavy, but enough weight to make things move when you give it a swing. It has been most usefull on my bug restos for all kinds of uses. Probably only between $12-15 at your local hardware. Best of luck! Let me know what kind of success you have!
