I have no UP and GO

Hi i am very confussed, my lovely bug just does not have any up and go. when i put my foot down it just slugish, and when i go up hill in just sort of dies. on sunday i had a big back fire could this lack be down to burnt piston rings or am i just thinking the worse ???

the job i was doing on sunday was starter motor and i cleaned up all the spark plugs and dizzy cap and wires

any advise plz

Have you checked your timing? Have you checked your point gap? Do you have your spark plug wires back on in the right order? Let us know!

Can we assume all the normal tune-up procedures have been run? (Points, plugs, timing, valve adjustment?)
