ok 62 beetle ..... reverse wont roll back

ok i know this sounds weird but when i get into reverse and start to back up its like i hit a curb and the car bounces forward like a brick wall.... each time i reverse.... i actually have to put it into first and get pushed while i hold the clutch no other way weird problem anyone ever had this one
