Hi,
I have just bought a 66 and have an umber of things that I would like to do.
The main one is that at some point the car has been given "The Cal Look". Which is fine, but in the processthe rain gutters have been removed.
Has anyone ever rebuilt the rain gutters, are there any replacement panels?
Also, how can I dentify what the original color should be? Not that its really important just yet. We have a lot of body work to do before we get really worried about color scheme.
I'll start posting pictures as soon as I get some off the camera.
Thanks
RB.

That's a LOT of welding and tweaking. I don't know of any place that sells rain gutter channels, but a body shop should be able to fab and re-add them for you if you can't do the work yourself. (I certainly couldn't) Be prepared for this to take a big bite out of your wallet, I'd guess there's at LEAST 10-20 hours per side in work there.
Rain Gutter Replacement
The ongoing saga of rain gutter replacement....
I have the car at home now and have been looking over it to see what needs to be done. The major thing is to get rain gutters back on it.
I suspect that will be better in the longrun to replace the roof and easier than trying to rebuild the gutters. The rest of the car, floor pans, wheel wells, boot, engine bay are all solid which is great.
So anyway I'm now looking at gettin a whole roof, but I'm confused. I know 66 has some specific things that changed but I can't work out if 66 is a small or big window beetle. Can someone let me knw which it is. I have found a couple of roof clips, but they are form 63 and 64s and are classed as small windows.
I will post a picture of the car soon....honest.
Thanks
Richard

Ok, her's the breakdown on windows
-52 = split
'53-'57 = oval
'58-'64 = "small window"
'65- = "big window"*
* '65-69 and maybe up to '72 were all same size glass. Later models changed sizes several times to meet regulations and styling needs, so mileage may vary.
For a '66, you'll want a roof clip from a '65-71 STANDARD. Not an early flat screen Super beetle.
