Vechicle idles, but then dies out.

Hi, Recently I have had issues with my bug. The vechicle starts, idles, but when i hit the gas pedal, she dies out immediately. I so far have done the following: check and adjusted ignition timing, checked and adjusted valve clearnence, checked for vaccum leaks. I'm now stuck. I'm thinking maybe the fuel pump or the carb are bad. I don't know how exactly how the mechanical pump works throughtout engine operation. I have disconnected the fuel line to the carb and checked for fuel flow as I had a buddy turn the ingnition key. It did squirt fuel out (pulsing). Is it constent during engine operation? Or does the pulsing flow increase? Could the accelerator pump in the carb be faulty? Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thank You.

The stock mechanical pump is operated by a pushrod that rides on the crank. The faster the engine turns, the more squirt you get from the pump. If you're getting squirt, it's probably not the pump. Do you get a strong fuel smell when it dies? If so, you may be flooding it with too much fuel from the accelerator pump. the other end of the spectrum obviously is that you're getting enough gas to idle but not enough to accelerate. work the throttle lever a few times by hand and see if you're getting a good squirt of fuel. This could also be a vacuum leak, so you're going to want to look at that as well. If you can't nail it down, rebuild the carb and see if you can't resolve it that way.

This a stock Solex/Brosol carb?

It does have a stock Solex/Brosol 30/31 carb. So, I took off both fresh air heater hoses due to needing replacement in the process of checking all other possible problems and now the vechicle starts and continues operating while accelerating. Haven't done anything else the to vechicle. Can that be the problem causing the issues I had? If the heater element (not sure the actual nomenclature) were clogged, would it prevent the vechicle from operating, just like a catalyictic converter would? Thank You for any input.
