Glove Box Mechanism

Post by Teal »

So now that I've parked a stereo in my glove box I'm using it a lot more... but it doesn't work right. It seems like there should be a spring somewhere to push the panel open when I depress the glove box button. As it is now I have to kinda grab the side while I push the button and pull it open.

So is there a missing spring that I need to dig out of a junkyard?

 I just got the little rubber stops about 2 weeks ago, I already had the little finger tab to help open the door, with the stops I don't need it!
I have the spring on mine, but after 44 years it doesn't do much, I just recommend the stops!

Thanks for the heads up! I'll take a look in my box-o-parts for the spring, and hit Blairs & Sons if I don't have one.

Thanks again!

Actually, I might just call Karl's Kustom and see if they have the rubber stops, that might fix my problem. Closing argument, they install from the front! I'm not pulling that glove box out unless I have to, now that I've got it the way I want it.

Thanks for the info!

if it were me I'd call Gilbert at Doug's instead of Karl's.

I picked up the rubber parts and installed them, but that didn't do the trick, so lo and behold I peek in the trunk and the spring is there! It wasn't engaged to the top member of the GB panel, so a quick twist and glove box works like a champ. Now I need to find someone to match the paint, GB and ashtray are came primered. No idea where this paint came from. Or who to have do the work.

But that'll be another post.

Thanks for your help all, piece by piece she comes to life.

As for Karls the shop is less thank 2 miles from my house, pretty hard to not end up in there once a week. And Ethan has been pretty cool, explaining stuff without being condenscending. I don't like being talked down to, some dub folk can get really snooty if they think you haven't changed a transaxle. Ya know?

I didn't stay at a holiday inn last night, either.

ha!
