Paint colors

Post by bockegg »

I think I a going to paint my project Ruby Red. Does anyone have any pros or cons with this color paint? I will eventually get the paint from the German company.

My 66 is Ruby Red. The PO re-sprayed the car a different brighter red but the interior, trunk and inside engine compartment are still the original ruby red color. As I recall the original paint back in the 60s was very susceptible to oxidation. I saw many red bugs that just looked nasty because of the severe oxidation. I'm sure modern paint will hold up MUCH better. I don't mind the brighter color red I have right now on my bug. People find it very pleasing...but it's not original. There may come a day when I get it back to original. Please share pictures and the name of paint manufacturer as you move along in your project.

From the pictures I've attached the interior and exterior paint look the same but their not quite a match. See what I mean about the brighter red?

Thanks for that post! I was considering the lighter blue too, but your pictures are making my decision easier. That car is absolutely beautiful. You did a wonderful job. I think that I will go with that color. My interior is a grey and black, but that can be changed if it is not a good match for the red. Where did you get your paint?
Thanks, Mike

Ruby and black is a very good look too. You really can't go wrong with Ruby Red IMO

The fading wasn't because of the paint, it's because the color red is the most susceptible color to fading.

I AGREE I think that gray and black interior is a beautiful compliment to a red bug. I'm trying to find out what red my car is painted. I did not spec the paint, it was specd by the previous owner.

Would you mind posting a few more pics of your '66? I would like to see the interior, front, back and sides, and the rims. Thanks, Mike

Thank you kindly. Those pics will serve as a guide for my restoration. Also, if you have any, would you please post some of the interior?
Thanks, Mike

Thanks! This morning I had it up on four jack stands working underneath spraying the underbody with with an anti-corrosion spray. I plan on driving it from time to time during the winter months, but we use salt on the roads here in Northeastern Ohio.

Keep in mind that the interior color is the stock Ruby Red.
