Can I Remove The Oil Cooler *without* removing the engine?

Post by Chris R »

Hello All,
I purchased a 66 baja bug last fall and just pulled it out of storage yesterday. It appears to be leaking oil from the Oil Cooler. With the baja kit I have a pretty good amount of room to work around the motor. I'm wondering if it's possible to pull the fan shroud and oil cooler without dropping the motor? 2nd question is that the pushrod tubes look pretty oily as well. Maybe I should drop it and do them all at the same time?

Here's a couple pics:

The shroud has to be lifted high enough to clear the cooler. Not possible with the engine installed. It is so easy to pull the engine I would do that and give it a good re-seal on the bench and save the headache.

The shroud can be removed with the engine in the car, but with the Baja kit it makes it incredibly easy to remove the engine, so why not take the easy route?
