Sun Roof

Post by BarneyBoy »

Hi: New member here. What a nice site. I was wondering if anyone has a diagram or other specific information on the rebuilding of the sun roof area on a 66 beetle. I have the sun roof, but one of the cables was broken so all I have is a bag of hardware. I know I need to order one cable, maybe more. A diagram and specific directions from some source would sure help. If someone could point me to a manual, it would be great! Thanks again--I'm new to this "bug" culture.----BarneyBoy.

The sunroof cable is very sensitive, or at least mine is, I would recommend replacing it, otherwise it is hard to use the sunroof, but it would still be usable, it all depends on your budget
A volksie thanks,

Hey Max:

Thanks for the advice. I actually ordered 2 new cables and the gear. Several different folks said that was the way to go, so we'll see??? I'm going to install all of these parts possibly this next weekend. Thanks again! BarneyBoy :P

Make sure you grease them up, lubricate the channel, and grease the gears, the better lubricated the easier it is to use, good luck on your bug,.

I'm having some trouble with my sunroof. It opens and closes smoothly but when in the fully closed position, the sunroof itself doesn't pop up correctly in the rear. In other words, there is about a half inch difference from the height of the sunroof to the height of the roof itself. It doesn't allow light through, not even water that i'm aware of but it doesn't have a smooth look across the roof. Any advice?
