Door Release Mechanism

Post by rokemester »

Has anyone experienced a broken spring in their door release mechanism? I’ve tried to find a replacement release but have come up empty. I took my lever apart thinking I might be able to replace the torsion spring. Our year has a unique spring which allows the door lever to move both forward and backward. This allows the driver to both open the door and lock the door.

There are plenty of releases out there but not our specific model year part. This is part number for left driver side 111837021D. 111837022D would be part no for passenger right side.

Has anyone been able to source a replacement torsion spring? Thanks!

Has anyone experienced a similar problem with their doors. Maybe I’m wrong but figure others have to move their door lever back in position after opening the door because it won’t spring back.

I’m also adding an arm rest on the driver side. This may have been either a factory or dealer option because there are two holes in the door frame to accommodate a receiver for the door panel plate.

I'm getting ready to pull my door handles. The key turns the lock but doesn't unlock the door. Since the handles have the button, and aren't the norm for this year. I'm just going to remove, save, and buy aftermarkets for $50. Best of luck finding that spring.

I think the 1966 handles transitioned to the "button" style on the second half of 66 year production...
