Euro 66 Sea Blue Beetle

Post by wattsd66 »

Are the Euro beetles different than the US beetles. This was shipped to Munich on the 10 of March 66. Bought by a service member and brought back to the states when he returned, it has interior of a 65 model. Also has solid rims instead of the slotted rims for a 66. He said it came from the dealer with the 65 items installed when he purchased it. Could this be true?

Here are a few pics of the 66. It has a 1300 CC.

That's interesting...it would be cool to see more pics...1966 euro bugs had a few distinctive traits compared to the US models...ignition on the steering column, no emergency flasher, passenger's door handle without key slot, orange/red rear lights lenses, fluted headlight lenses, vinyl seats with cloth inserts...the interior door panels are supposed to be the same for the US and the European market...it's really strange to see 1965 door panels on a 1966 model...your picture shows the correct 1966 steering wheel and the distinctive 1966 dashboard air vent...thanks for sharing your story with the group!

Could you tell me what is the function of the white knob next to the ashtray, right under the emergency flasher knob?

Beautiful bug, I’m also curious about the white knob under the flasher

I would say the white knob is actually a cigarette lighter looking at it closely.

That's really cool to see, a rare accessory that's hard to find these days...the company Autofum used to manufacture cigarette lighters for Porsches and VWs...the pics attached are an example of a lighter for early Porsches...
