I have been searching for a period correct roof rack for a while, I finally got one off Craiglist...complete with the proper hardware that is so often missing...just keep in mind that these metal racks are quite noisy because they sit lower than the repops...once you hit 30 mph...it starts howling...on the other hand, the fact that is just one solid welded piece of metal makes a huge difference in performance, especially compared to the cheaply made reproductions...
Roof Rack
Re: Roof Rack
I have that same rack I bought from a guy in late 80's. He said it was original VW. I cannot get mine on my 66 because the gap is to tight at top of doors. Looks nice on your bug! Casey

Re: Roof Rack
That looks great! I’ve always wondered if the mounts scratch the paint at all. I’d love to have one.
Re: Roof Rack
The rack feet have rubber protection to not scratch the rain gutters and I used insulation tape on the clamps...I have to say that the wind noise going through the bars is really annoying though, that's really unfortunate...
