I need to plug up some holes in my back engine deck lid.

It's a 66. Most of ours have been rebuilt to 1600, but who would ever know? I'm a stock guy, so I say 1300!

If you're building a Herbie replica, you should delete the badge altogether. Otherwise I'd keep the 1300 badge, because it's a unique feature of the '66 VW.

Thought was to have bolt on replaceable parts with the stripes and gumball 53s on them.

I also like a magnet idea. The wife seems to think, stripes and gumballs aren't necessary.

My solution to that is two cars!

I'm not kidding. I really have a stock '66 (two actually), and a Herbie.

I also have a wife who's a Herbie fan and drives the car herself, so win-win.

My wife can't drive a stick.
Our house doesn't have a garage, and every other 66 on the market nearby is apparently in better shape, which means they aren't necessarily as cheap as the current one when I bought it
As far as getting two, my son is getting close to driving age and is going to get passed on to him both my dad's motor trike and now, oddly enough, a 66 corvair convertible.
This leads to a full parking situation and possibly getting rid of a vehicle. I'm doing what I can to make sure it isn't Herb. Thoughts around this include not only getting him fixed up like new, but finding some way to replace our existing barn shed with a bigger pole barn but trying to convince her may take some doing.
