Which brands of paint stripper??

Post by Digger89L »

I've searched this forum and others for information about people using liquid paint strippers to remove paint from their VW projects. Turns out many people have done it successfully, and many recommend it over sanding and sand-blasting. However, very few if any, mention WHICH liquid paint strippers they have used, and which may work better than others. I just tried some old CIRCA 1850 FURNITURE STRIPPER on a repainted VW wheel, and even though the stuff is more than 15 years old, it began blistering the paint right away. So, I'm thinking 'less expensive' might be the way to go??? Can anyone recommend a couple of products that can be found at a major retailer like Lowes, or Home Depot, etc.? Thanks

The big box stores have it and it has the words "Aircraft Stripper" on it. Rust-oleum and Zinsser brands are easy to get ant any hardware store.

Thanks for the reply. Life is never easy .....Home Depot Canada carries a bunch of Rustoleum products, but no paint strippers. Not even the "Aircraft Remover" one you mentioned. They also carry the Zinsser line of products, but no paint strippers. Lowes Canada also carries the Zinsser line, but no strippers, and they don't carry Rustoleum products. Maybe I'll check with some of the non-BigBox stores and see what I can scare up ....

It seems CEPA 1999 kind of limits what can be sold in Canada for paintstripping. I did find the following that is available in Canada:

https://www.m-tc.com/efs2500prod.html

Look at the site and see how to get it.
