Foam for temporary tire inflation

Post by Digger89L »

I'm no where near putting my 66 project on the road, so won't need (and can't afford) new tires for likely a year or two. In the meantime, I still have to move my chassis around the shop. I have wheels and some gnarly tires that don't hold air (for very long) ...so was wondering if it might work to inflate them temporarily with something like Gunk brand, or Fix-a-Flat puncture seal and tire inflator. Not worried about post-use cleanup or anything. Anyone ever done this???

I have used Fix-a-flt and Slime in tires and they both work okay. For the product to work you have to be able to spin the tire so the liquid will go to the damaged spot or hole. It may not work sealiing a broken or rusty bead. The best way around would be tubes so you know they would hold air. But then breaking down the tire and all does cost unless you can do it. Good luck.

Lots of info on the net about putting 'expanding poly spray foam' (for insulation) into lawn mower tires, etc. Perhaps that's the way to go?

Can't seem to find anyone around here who has inner tubes of a size that would fit. I'm not worried about 'ruining' the tires ...they ones I have are 40 years old and already shot.
