Fuel Gauge Sending unit

Post by Itskyle »

Is there a trick to removing this? My other bug had handy-dandy bolts. I noticed I could rotate the cover of the sending unit.

What have you guys done to remove the sending unit?

Not sure what you mean by sending unit as the '66 VW had a mechanical fuel gauge.

If you mean removing the float from the tank, simply pry off the cover on the tank, disconnect the cable and remove the screws.

If you mean removal of the gas gauge from the dash, after prying off the cover on the tank and disconnecting the end of the cable from the float arm, remove the knurled nut from the back of the gauge, take off the mounting bracket and pull the unit out from inside the car.

Done. Initial attempt with blunt nosed pliers and brute force ended up almost knocking myself out
