Distributor replacement

Post by Dave Doddridge »

Just bought a 66 bug to restore. It is 12 volt 1500cc. I need to replace the distributor and voltage regulator. On JC Whitney I see a centrifugal advance distributor. Can I put an electronic ignition in it so I won't have to worry about points etc. in the future?
I have lots of questions but this will do for now. Thanks for any help you may give.

You should be able to

But you would need to pick up the Muir book. He covered this in the suggested improvements section, IIRC.

As far as the voltage regulator goes, that's an easy replacement. I got mine (12 Volt) from O'Reilly Auto Parts (in stock, no less.)

Make sure you specify a 67 model year, and then you'd get the right one.
