rear seat hardware

Post by parafyn »

when i got my bug the interior was completely out of it and had no hardware for the rear seat. ive found the pivot bolts online for the back rest but i cant find any info on the 2 bolts that hold the bar that goes across that holds the bottom of the rear seat in place, i cant even find the bar online! how does one restore a bug if that piece is missing? anyone know what size these bolts are or know somewhere i can order them???

Just a standard 10mm bolt, about a half-inch long. The bar that supports the front edge of the rear seat bottom is like a piece of angel-iron laid flat to form a ledge that the rear seat bottom front edge sits on. There are two bolts :one at each end, just below the door post. No bolt in the centre ...just a lump that fits into a divit in the floor hump. If you're trying to do a "parts perfect" restoration, you'll have to find another bug to salvage this part from ...or fabricate one out of some angle iron that is one-inch wide on each side. See pics for what the actual support looks like.

The reason they're not available as a replacement part is because they would be a loss leader. It's the type of part that is seldom needed new.

The bolys are M6 x 12 long and the seat rail is easy to find on samab, search or post a WTB.

I have some if you get stuck.
