Junction box, or what??

Post by Digger89L »

I've been checking out various other 66 bugs as I prepare to work my restoration project. My 66 (which is still 6 volt) has this odd looking electrical box on the firewall on the left hand side. I have never seen another bug with anything like this. Can anyone tell me what it's for?

If we knew what it was connected to we might be able to help.

I'll go out on a limb and say it's some sort of hard-start relay.

I might say that, too ... if I knew what a "hard-start relay" was. !!! As you can see, the thick wire coming out of the top of the box goes around behind the fan shroud, and connects to the voltage regulator on top of the generator. Other wires connect to the coil, and to the "other side" of the voltage regulator ...Haven't traced all the wires yet, and as you can tell, I'm not an automotive electrician, by any stretch. I guess I'd better document and diagram everything, once I get down to tearing the car apart.
