Hand Brake adjustment

Post by KKV270 »

Hi.
Was adjusting my hand brake and realized the wheels lock on reverse. I'd have to drive forward to "unlock the jam" then be able to reverse...probably having to do it twice.

Anytime after having lifted (Used) the hand brake, I have to do the whole routine all over again....drive forward to unlock the jam, reverse and probably do it again if it jams on me....and sad news is that, the hand brake is still not well holding and especially back left wheel yet the cable seems to have tightened all up.

What's going on???...or rather, what's done wrong???

More than likely, your brake cable is beginning to fray which causes it to get hung up inside the brake cable sleeve and not let the brake shoes release properly. Even though they only "lock up" in reverse, the shoes are likely to be dragging when driving forward which can cause excess heat which is not good for your brake system. If you need to go online to get new cables, I recommend going with one of the companies that sell German made cables.

Hand Brake adjustment

Post by KKV270 »

hi.

I realized the problem. I had a brocken hand brake handle. It is brocken at at the pivot so causing one of the cables to jam in between some place and not releasing tension.

Thanks h-moto. your answer drove me to the inpection that led to the findings.

Ceers.
