Wiring Headlights

Post by Ferrety76 »

Hello! I have the wiring diagram for the 66. However, I am a little confused here. My question is concerning the ground cable. Does it goes from the chasis to 31 on the headlight plug? or there is a brown wire from 31 to the screw next to parking lights?
any help would be appreciated.

It tees into the brown wire to the headlight, which grounds to the body inside the trunk next to the turn signal. But you can ground it to the body wherever you want.

Thank's Blue Baron. That helped.
On the same "light" topic, the manual for my car (1966 beetle sedan) it says:
"The instrument lighting can be varied in brightness by turning the lighting switch. It can also be switched off completely by turning the switch counter clockwise as far as it would go." There is a pull switch under the dash board (left side of the steering wheel). This pull switch looks exactly like the pull switch for the headlights. Under the hood is not connected to anything right now. Is this the mechanism that changes the brightness of the instrument lighting?
I had not idea 1966 beetles came with this feature. The wiring diagram does not show any information on this connection. However, the manual clearly mentions this on page 8.
Any ideas? Blue Baron? or any other of you knowledgeable people in this forum? Thank you

The headlight switch is the left one at the top of the dash.

The switch you describe sounds like it was added on.
