Spark plug gapping

Hi.
Can someone kindly give me information about the spark plug gap clearance. I would like to 'on point' my newly fitted Champion plugs that I had already fit in the car.

Hi.

I went through the technical page on this site. I realize a number of differences in the ratings of the 1966 engine compared to mine....eg, voltage, maximum speed....etc. Do i still use the spark plug clearance indicated??? kindly advice.

Volkswagen used different spark plugs throughout the production of the Beetle.
(As long as you have the correct thread diameter (14 mm x 1.25 x 12.7) you should be fine)

You should have
Bosch W 145 T1, Beru 145/14, or Champion L-88A
Champion L-85 or L-86 will also work

The correct spark plugs should be gapped to .024 to .028 inch (.6 to .7 mm)

As far as cleaning goes.... You should have them cleaned in a sand blaster. Try a local garage to see if they'll clean them for you. If you're unable to find anyone that can clean them for you, try using carburetor cleaner and sand paper. (be careful not to damage the ceramic insulator)

hanks Hercdriver for the info. I did get Champion (xxx) can't quite remember the details though got them from a higly reputable store that has sold to VW Beetle owners.

I'd want to gap them and see the difference....there is something about my beetle that makes it drug (taking time to gather momentum).... I just can't put a finger to it. I'll follow the matter once cleaned and gapped the plugs then tune the carb.

Any other things I could probably consider checking in regards to power. (the hill, our nemesis, seems to get the best of us on alternate drives. one time we drive uo, the second, we have to speed up on high speed to make it through)...
