I went ahead and replaced the connectors after cleaning the wires ends. Crimped very tight and sprayed with anti-corrosive :P Should be good to go now. I can't complain since she left me stranded only this once and a block from home at that. The twitching noise could have been the bad contact sparki...

It turned out to be a dirty spade connection to ignition switch. Probably caused by the cold weather and vibration.. Nothing two minutes and contact cleaner can't cure. I'm learning that we really gotta make some sturdy electrical connections in these old bugs. Vibration can literally beat wires to ...

ignition switch failure?
While driving tonight.. I engage turn signal and hear a quick twitching noise then lose electricity to everything. It happened suddenly. My first thought was a relay acting up (the twitching noise), but only the ignition switch could cause loss of all electrical components given a working battery si...

Sorry if I offended you as an employee or as an autotech in general. I don't doubt there are talented people working at such places. I was pretty sad when it happened but all is honest truth. Thanks for compliments, these old bugs really grow on you. I Hope everything goes smoothly on yours. Be sure...

Sometimes there are bends in the cable that prevent it from sliding correctly. You could try making a brace for it if you see any bends/creases. My gauge only tells me when empty and never registers much higher than half mark. I can move the send lever til it reads full but the fuel alone can't move...

Can't the cylinders be replaced with same size remakes? I seem to remember reading that somewhere, that old VW's had removable cylinders. Could be complete BS... I am relatively new to beetle mechanics and have not made it far into engine repairs yet. Hopefully someone else can give you some concret...

Nano engine additives
Has anyone tried the latest nano-tech additives like tungsten disulfide, boron nitride, nano oils, etc? What about ZMax? Its not a nano product but a micro-lube and cleaning agent for temporary use in fuel and oil (two different bottles). Please share any experience with such products. Thanks edit: ...

Just following up like I promised. The solar panel keeps the yellow top Optima at 13.6v even when not driven for a few days. Temps are around 50f day and 30f night. I have to admit it seems to have made the battery a bit more powerful than when first purchased. No complaints so far. Starts well and ...

Not sure about it being resprayed but likely. The camera flash makes it apprear brighter than usual. After a good wax the color has a darker gloss to it. Definitely want some stainless bumpers though. Not that some good polish wont cure the old rusty type. The heater channels are in good shape, tigh...

Mine stays under covered parking but the back window is facing out for the sun. Looking at the controller it does seem to work even in very cloudy weather. Small light on controller shows how much light is being collected. Blinks red very slowly in dim conditions, with increased intensity blinks fas...

Woops, I thought everyone would know its just a solar battery charger, but not the normal kind. It sends energy from solar panel into battery at high frequency pulses to remove sulfate buildup that accumulates from normal battery use. Lead plates inside any lead-acid battery get dirty with use, this...

"SolarPulse" 6watt battery charger/desulfation
Was out til 3:am last night installing this thing. 6watt, .365amp solar cell. 28khz at 16.5v max pulse desulfation controller soldered inline. I mounted the controller under back seat in opposite pan from battery on top of a thick vibration dampener. Trying to keep it far from anything audio as it p...
