The 1966 VW Beetle Forum

How often should one "tune up" the engine (adjust valves, replace spark plugs, points, adjust timing, adjust carburetor)? Do you need to do it even if everything is running perfectly?

Anyone know why the 1966 VW Beetle manual shows timing (p. 46) at TDC instead of 7.5 degrees BTDC? Everything I have read on here shows that static timing should be done at 7.5D BTDC.

I am new to the forum. I own a restored 1966 beetle. I have owned several bugs over the years including a bus, which I sold recently.

I am here due to the amount of good info on the technical and mechanical forum.
