1300 cc 1965
I have a 1965 1300 cc VW Beetle! It is supposed to be the same as 1966 as it is made on October 1965 but it has some mainly small differences(no hazzard button, one ignition key one for the dor and one for the engine lid etc.) i wonder wetther there are any mechanical differences as well because i started a restoration with aim to reach a near showroom condition!
The 1966 model year for Volkswagen began in August 1965. If your car was built in October 1965, that would make it a 1966 model. The best way to be certain is from the serial number of your car. A serial # for a 1966 begins with 116 and a serial # for a 1965 begins with 115. Motor Vehicle Departments don't always get the years correct on the title. My '66 Beetle was built in August 1965 as is wrongly titled as a 1965.
If your car does not have hazard flashers and has an ignition switch with steering lock, then you likely have what is commonly referred to as a European model. These vehicles use one key for the door and a different one for the ignition.
As far as mechanical differences, there will be mechanical differences even within the 1966 model year. Not all changes were made at the beginning of the model year. A look at Progressive Refinements will show that Volkswagen made changes all the time.
