Remounting Top Engine Bolts

Post by HogChief1 »

I am trying to get the top engine bolts in to secure the engine of my to the frame. The clutch lever on the transmission is smack dab in front of the hole, and I can't pull it down far enough to get the bolt in. When I look at the VW manual, it shows a straight clutch lever, but mine is curves to the left in kind of an arc. Is it supposed to be straight up, missing the bolt hole, or is it supposed to curve to cover the hole, and I just can't pull it down far enough to get out of the way (which means I have a problem with the lever/transmission?) It is a newly rebuilt transmission. Thanks much!

Volkswagen used different clutch levers depending on the year of the car.

Here's another answer that may seem like a cop-out: Install the engine with three bolts and it will work fine. You may know there's only three, but the engine never will.
